How to create a Location QR Code
- Copy coordinates from any map app (right-click, or long-press a spot).
- Paste latitude and longitude.
- Download and test-scan.
How a location QR code works
The code contains a geo: link with latitude and longitude. Scanning it asks the phone to open that point in a maps app. To find coordinates, right-click a spot in Google Maps or long-press on a phone map and copy the numbers.
Check compatibility with your audience
Android and most map apps handle geo: links, but some iPhone scanner apps open them less reliably. If your audience mostly uses iPhones, or you want a place name and directions instead of a bare point, share a normal maps link with the URL to QR code tool instead: it works everywhere.
Good uses
Event venues, meeting points, trailheads, parking spots and pop-up shops. Add a label under the code, such as "Meet here", and put it where people can scan it before they need to find you.
Make the point accurate
Zoom in before you copy coordinates: a spot a few metres off can leave visitors on the wrong side of a building. Use the entrance rather than the middle of the property. Five or six decimal places are precise enough; more digits only add data. After generating the code, scan it and check where the map pin lands, ideally on site. Print the street address as text next to the code as a fallback for phones that do not open geo links.
Frequently asked questions
Which apps open it?
It uses the standard geo: link, which Android and most map apps handle. iPhone support varies by scanner app.
